Why Do I Do These Things?

Semi-incredible–your bedroom looks nearly exactly like part of my former apartment’s living room, where I ran a home computer repair business in Berkeley, CA (I kept the bedroom mostly as a bedroom, though it was sometimes crammed with electronic overflow–broken Macs, parts, etc). If you had panned around the room, would the rest look similar? That was the situation with my living room. I recently tore it all down to live for a while with my mother to help her with some things, but the rooms I currently occupy are starting to look like this too. When I moved, it was incredible to find how much stuff like this, that I had managed to cram into a small apartment.
Well, now I own a 2-bedroom townhouse, and the second bedroom is my office. One wall is books, two walls are parts storage cabinets, and the last is whiteboard and guest bed. Here are somewhat out-of-date pictures: http://roderickmann.org/stuff/office/index.html
Your office and overall method of organization also looks very much like my living room office used to, before I moved (except my office also contained living room stuff–TV, stereo, etc.)–beige 2-drawer filing cabinets under the tables (yours look exactly like mine, though mine hadn’t held up my tabletops (actually doors) for about ten years, after I’d moved from a formal workplace I rented, and switched to using folding tables), parts cabinets in the same location, same white shelving on rails, magnifying fluorescent light (though mine is white plastic), old-style Apple Cinema Display, small and tall brown shelf units for books, misc items on workbench, similar 3-tier silver metal mesh paper organizer in closet, white dryerase writing board (though I haven’t used mine for about ten years, after I took sole proprietorship of my business–it’s still covered with employees’ old notes as a keepsake), etc. I don’t have a copy machine, or a ladder along one wall–my ladder is on the outside of the house, so I can climb on the roof and fix the leaks–but your place is still eerily similar, or else some minds think logically alike about some things. Before I moved, I had hoped to move into a two-bedroom place, to allow me to finally separate my living room from my office, at which point I would have organized my office similar to yours, but that didn’t happen.
By the way, I was aimed at your website by Google when I went looking for fixes for Safari’s frequent pauses. Your solution is probably mine too–too many forms autofill entries–but unfortunately I can’t remove enough of them to reduce Safari’s pauses, since I visit so many news sites I’m registered at.
